The Ghosters are a Spanish-American pop super-group of sorts: Juan Ferrari (guitars, keyboards) has played with Los Sentidos, Los Potros, Los Brujos, Malcolm Scarpa & The Jacquelines, Santi Campos, Clovis, Jonston, Pablo Guerrero; Pepe Bermejo (bass guitar, vocal) is a member of The Happy Losers and Los Imposibles; and Patrick Hawley (drums, percussion) has played with Pansy Division, Prisonshake and Adam Schmitt.

And you may already know who Erik Voeks is. Though he only just released a few singles (on legendary indie labels Bus Stop & Parasol), and the classic 1993 album "Sandbox" (recorded with a cast of friends that included Adam Schmitt, Patrick Hawley, Jay Bennett, Steve Scariano and Nick Rudd), Erik Voeks' music has resonated deep with a small but dedicated group of powerpop aficionados throughout the world. "Lost treasure", "hidden gem" are expressions often used to describe "Sandbox", which was rereleased digitally in 2013. For years he kept a low profile, but he never gave up music recording home demos, playing with a few friends as The Octopus Frontier, or even touring in the U.S. and Europe with Jon Dee Graham. In late 2012 Spring Records released on vinyl a 4-song EP titled "Free Range", that received rave reviews. Since then, Erik has kept himself busy putting out more new recordings through his bandcamp page, playing shows and touring Spain a couple of times. In 2016 Hanky Panky put out "So The Wind Won't Blow It All Away" which gathered a series of digital only singles Erik released monthly that year (from April to September), and two new recordings. The album gained much critical acclaim and was the number 1 album of the year on John Borack’s Power Pop Plus! List.

After touring Spain in 2017 as Erik Voeks & The Spanglish Settlement, Erik, Juan, Pepe and Patrick decided to record an album together. Plans were made for the four of them to meet up in Spain to finish the album, but the pandemic interfered and the recording process took a long and winding road. Being late is better than never, as they say, and “It Means Nothing Now” is finally here. “Pure pop magic” says the Powerpopaholic website. Who are we to disagree?

Y quizás ya sepas quién es Erik Voeks. En ese punto donde estilo como proceder elegante y género o método convergen. Ahí, exactamente ahí, se sitúan Winterafter. Será más fácil comprender la irrupción de este nuevo cuarteto bilbaíno, si nos remitimos casi dos décadas atrás al álbum que dejaron The Shannons ("Scripts And Stories", Rock Indiana, 2004). Eduardo Orbezua, guitarra, voz y composición de diez de las once canciones, retoma aquella vieja historia con nuevos aires y acompañantes en busca de un todo compacto, con esa solidez que sólo crece a base de complicidad, trabajo y lealtad. J.J. Espizua (guitarra y autor de la canción "1979"), Rudy Mental (bajo) y Claudio Martín (batería), más las aportaciones de Santi Campos (teclados), Pit Idoyaga y Marc Tena (voces), con la mezcla final de Iñigo Escauriaza en El Submarino de Mungia.

"Rivers of memory", pocos títulos tan bellos y apropiados, nos traslada por un caudal de melodías ad eternum, cocinadas a fuego lento, con el dibujo de finos afluentes que siempre van a desembocar en ese mar de tranquilidad y reposo que es el folk-rock americano de trazo primoroso y gentil. Winterafter se aplican en ese esmero permanente como orfebres ensimismados con esa pequeña joya que acarician hasta dotarla de vida propia, de un latir humano, si por tal entendemos nuestra capacidad benefactora. Las once piezas se hermanan en esa pesquisa de la armonía impecable (basta asomarse como ejemplo a las segundas voces y coros de "For every soul" y "From under pain", o a la flema en suspensión de "Sometimes" y "Windward"...) ¿Cómo interpretar todo ello? Vamos a llamarlo aroma.

These days, singer-songwriter and actor David Blue tends to be remembered only in relation to Bob Dylan. A member of the supporting cast in mid-60s Greenwich Village and The Rolling Thunder Revue. Yet to categorise Blue in this way is reductionist, and does him an injustice. He was something of an archetype of the 60s generation of Greenwich Village singer-songwriters. Yet, esteemed by his peers, he was overlooked. He released seven albums in a decade, and his acting career was shaping up when he died suddenly at the age of just 41.

His passing was barely noted in the rock press, and in the subsequent years Blue was all but forgotten. Of late, though, that’s changed. His albums started to reappear on CD on small labels and, in 2020, both Rolling Stone and Mojo magazines published major reappraisals. Blue – at last – was getting the attention denied him in life.

It wasn’t until 1965 that Blue, as Dave Cohen, released his first recordings – three songs on Elektra’s Singer Songwriter Project. All betrayed a debt to pre-electric Dylan. But then again, so did much else coming out of Greenwich Village at the time. Elektra contracted Blue to do his own album, and in 1966 “David Blue” was released – his first recording to appear under that name. Electric folk rock with a garage band attitude, somewhat in debt to Highway 61, it didn’t sell well. Shortly after the album’s release Blue formed and toured with The American Patrol, a four-piece rock band, recording an album for Elektra that was never released.

Now, for the first time, Hanky Panky and Mapache release those historical abandoned American Patrol recordings, along with the three tracks included on Elektra’s 1965 LP Singer Songwriter Project, as David Blue And The American Patrol “The Lost 1967 Elektra Recordings & More” and “David Blue”, his self-titled 1966 debut album, on two exclusive vinyl editions limited to 500 copies each.

Over the course of their stop-start five years together, Honeybus ventured into the BBC studios on a dozen occasions, leaving a catalogue of recordings that mirrored their latest releases as well as offering up a fascinating alternate history. The songs that make up 1970’s much-loved “almost didn’t happen” Story album (reissued by Hanky Panky/Mapache in 2018, along with the rest of the group’s output) began appearing as early as the summer of 1968. The likes of ‘Scarlet Lady’, ‘Black Mourning Band’ and ‘Under The Silent Tree’ appear almost fully-formed, played as ensemble pieces, suggesting that their album counterparts were captured quickly and without fuss during snatched studio sessions throughout late 1968 and 1969. They also demonstrate Honeybus’s often overlooked skills as a live unit – BBC sessions notoriously allowed little scope for re-takes or overdubbing; you went in and you laid it down while the men in white coats watched the clock.

Thrilling as it is to finally hear these alternate versions of familiar Honeybus cornerstones, it’s the surfeit of otherwise unrecorded material that’s the most startling revelation here. Under The Silent Tree: Gentle Sounds With Strings And Things At The BBC 1967-1973 presents no less than 10 unique Honeybus songs (plus a further four on the CD version only) that virtually constitute an entire second album’s worth of unheard material.

We find ourselves in a kind of musical hall of mirrors, revelling in a whole new perspective on one of the last great cult pop groups of the ’60s, where every track offers a fresh outlook, a fresh thrill, a fresh sound. With strings and things.

The first and only solo outing from Honeybus founder member Pete Dello is a highly regarded album by not only Honeybus fans and '60's-'70's collectors, but by anyone who has been lucky enough to fall into its magic spell. Though reissued several times (by this very same label back in 2005 as extended double LP/CD), this is the first ever reissue to feature the original album’s mix, and as Thomas Walsh states in the liner notes, "it’s a different musical animal altogether. Some of the songs feature alternate vocals, different instrumentation, different lead and harmony vocal melody lines, extra brass, no brass...all in all a revelation."

This edition features a faithful reproduction of the original album's artwork, and includes an insert with liner notes based on a new interview with Pete Dello by Ivor Novello nominated songwriter Thomas Walsh (Pugwash) and a poster of the fabled Roger Dean cover art. Limited to 500 copies.

Folk rock / power pop band THE SUMMER SUNS formed in Perth, Western Australia in 1986 as one off project to release Kim Williams’ songs “Honeypearl” & “Rachel Anne”. The popularity of the single saw The Summer Suns become a more permanent fixture in the Perth scene, 1986 – 1996, releasing records on most of the world’s best indie labels including Easter, Waterfront, Bus Stop, Parasol, Spring & Get Hip.

Although plying his songwriting trade in other bands and other genres, Williams never entirely gave up on his love for melodic music. After some time playing sadcore then garage rock he formed THE LOVE LETTERS with Katherine Browne, playing music very much like The Summer Suns unplugged.

In 2013 with a stockpile of tunes he began working simultaneously on a new SUMMER SUNS album and a LOVE LETTERS album with different versions of some songs to appear on both records. With Williams playing most of the instruments and producing the recordings time took its toll. Katherine Browne quit to concentrate on her real career leaving Williams to decide what to do with the two projects. With about 30 recordings to choose from he decided to edit it down to a single project under THE SUMMER SUNS banner. Thus EULALIE was born & self released in a limited vinyl edition of 100 copies, each numbered and with a unique vinyl colour and photo taken by Kim. With literally no publicity at all the album quickly sold out.

With demand for this now impossible to find folk rock / power pop LP increasing over the years, Hanky Panky Records is set to reissue it in a limited edition of 250 copies with improved detailed cover and 2 bonus tracks!

La banda de folk rock / power pop THE SUMMER SUNS se formó en Perth, Australia Occidental en 1986 como un proyecto temporal para lanzar las canciones de Kim Williams "Honeypearl" y "Rachel Anne". By the late summer of 1963, Reprise Records — the independent record label founded by Frank Sinatra three years earlier — had run into a few financial difficulties, partly because the label hadn't produced any major chart hits, and was purchased by Warner Bros.

Morris "Mo" Ostin, Reprise's vice-president and general manager, had brought in "whiz kid" producer Jimmy Bowen in 1963. Bowen's main job, at least in the beginning, was to produce hits for some of the younger Reprise acts, including a brand-new recording artist, arranger/producer Jack Nitzsche. Those Bowen-produced Reprise singles, released under Jack Nitzsche's own name between July 1963 and October 1965, were compiled together for the first time and released by Hanky Panky Records on “The Reprise Singles 1963-1965.”

The focus of this new collection is the work of Jack Nitzsche as arranger and producer for those hopeful Reprise acts, from 1963 to 1969. The number of records supervised, one way or another, by Nitzsche in this time - not only for the Reprise and Warner Bros. labels, but for myriad others -- is simply amazing. Many of them were assembled for the first time by Ken Barnes for a legendary interview with Nitzsche in the Winter ‘76/77 issue of Who Put the Bomp! magazine, entitled “The Arranger As Superman.”

The aim of the compilers for this specific collection was to include some of the harder-to-find titles from Nitzsche's Warner/Reprise legacy, along with a few favorites and must-haves, with track-by-track annotation by Barnes himself. Most of the selections feature the talents of the Wrecking Crew regulars as backing musicians, as Nitzsche applies his magic to songs written by David Gates, Ellie Greenwich, Carole King & Gerry Goffin, P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri, Sharon Sheeley and Jackie DeShannon, Sonny Bono, Hal David and Burt Bacharach, Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson and the Everly Brothers themselves, among others! The amount of talent in the grooves is staggering, encompassing the decade’s forever-changing musical landscape.

Tras la discreta desaparición de Burgas Beat, Aser Álvarez y Carlos Rego decidieron continuar dando forma a las canciones que mansamente seguían cayendo del cielo, sin otras pretensiones más allá del placer de tocar juntos y darles forma. Cuando decidieron que merecía la pena grabarlas, se dieron cuenta de que necesitaban un bajista, así que en una de esas soluciones ilógicas que acaban por ser las más acertadas, decidieron ofrecerle el puesto a Dani Alonso de Os Amigos dos Músicos… que nunca había tocado el bajo.

El trío acabó por funcionar como las agujas de un reloj suizo, y lo que iba a ser un par de canciones se convirtió en un disco hecho y derecho.

Al contrario de lo que pudiera parecer, la carrera de Carlos Rego, con Cosecha Roja y Burgas Beat como episodios más relevantes, es una de las más ambiciosas que se pueden rastrear en nuestra piel de toro. Y lo es porque elude inteligentemente el espurio cascarón que suele disfrazar este negociado tramposo llamado industria musical. Cuando los festivales se dedicaban a programar música y no a vender cerveza, Rego y los suyos ya llevaban años extrayendo minuciosamente la sustancia esencial de la que están hechas las buenas canciones. No se me ocurre pues tarea más ambiciosa que componer pequeñas piezas de 3 o 4 minutos… preservando la pulsión y el vigor entusiasta de Jo Jo Richman («Todo es tan raro»), embelleciendo la cruda melancolía al estilo Dinizio («Brillo»), invocando en galego la diáfana libertad del Tomorrow the Green Grass («Aguia»), despejando las sinuosas incógnitas de la fórmula Feelies («Aquí conmigo») o dibujando fascinantes elipses eléctricas como unos Dream Syndicate salidos de Ourense («Contadores de Estrellas»). 

Personal como un segundo apellido, el nuevo proyecto de Rego es tan conmovedor que, si se le permite, puede calar a gran profundidad. Si no es el más ambicioso de cuantos ha hecho, el primer disco de Tesouro, desde luego, lo que sí parece es el mejor.

Paul Williams co-authored some of the best-known, best-loved and biggest-selling pop hits of the 20th century, among them “We’ve Only Just Begun,” “Rainy Days And Mondays,” “The Rainbow Connection,” and “Evergreen.” His compositions have been recorded by artists ranging from The Carpenters to Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand to Three Dog Night, Johnny Mathis to The Monkees, plus thousands of others. In addition, his 1970 solo debut, Someday Man, (reissued in 2010 by Now Sounds [CRNOW 22]) is coveted by many record collectors as one of the essential albums of the “sunshine pop” genre. Before all that, he and brother Mentor Williams—himself the author of Dobie Gray’s 1973 hit “Drift Away”—were members of a short-lived psychedelic pop outfit called The Holy Mackerel. The band issued one fantastic Richard Perry-produced LP in 1968 and promptly vanished. This firsttime- on-vinyl compilation collects all of the bonus tracks from the 2010 Now Sounds expanded edition CD of the Mackerel’s eponymous LP.

Included in this collection are the band’s five mono single sides, (two of which weren’t included on the original Mackerel LP); two “sessions” tracks which provide great insight into how producer Richard Perry and the studio musicians crafted the final recordings; and three demos.
